The katuns are active from mid- May till middle of October (depend of snow), when farmers move back to their villages. As in all other katuns, the whole life here is dedicated to caring for cattle and to cheese making. Farmers are friendly and hospitably, and they will give you an opportunity to participate in any of the traditional activities that make their everyday life. The food you will eat here is not served in any of the restaurants in Montenegro and it is very tasty and special. Aside from great food, here you can get other services as well, such us: camping site, rental of tents, barbecue, shelter, horse rental, you can charge you electrical appliances and here you can buy variety of homemade products, famous rakija, and traditional knitted socks and vests.
Prokletije massif leave an unforgettable impression on all visitors with their beauty. This gigantic, most rugged mountain range, with jagged, white and black peaks, resembles a wolf’s jaw, and with the beauty of its forests, and pastures it contributes to the beauty of the whole area. In the mountain range of unique beauty, glacial lakes also stand out with their beauty: Plavsko, Hridsko, Rikavacko, Bukumirsko and Visitorsko. A special rarity are Alipaša's springs and the Grlja waterfall. The highest mountain peak on Prokletije is Zla Kolata - 2,536 m.
The river Skakavica flows 2.5 km from the OKA, and then comes to a high limestone beam, which divides the valley. In it, the river Skakavica builds a 30 m high waterfall - Grlja and sinks there. After 300 m of flow, Grlja appears in the light of day and after connecting with water from Alipaša's springs, it gets the name Vruja and flows towards Gusinje.
Karst spring, located near Gusinje, near the village of Vusanje. It springs at 1000 m above sea level. It has a circular shape. It is about 30 m long, 25 m wide, and the width increases towards the middle and reaches 8 m, and due to the crystal clear water, the bottom can be seen to the greatest depth. On the north and south sides, 3-5 m high limestone rocks rise above the spring. During hot summers, especially in August, the heat is completely reduced. The water recedes and rests, and there is no surface overflow, as in the winter months. Alipašini Izvori is located at a distance of 1.5 km south of Gusinje. The springs erupt at the foot of Prokletije at 925 m above sea level. The water erupts at a greater length (about 300m) from several places but strongly. During the dry summer months, the yield of Alipaša springs is about 3 m per second. In the spring it gives up to 3 times more water. Alipašini Izvori is a gathering place for Gusinjaci from all over the world, as well as numerous tourists who visit these springs every year.
Municipality Petnjica is one of the youngest municipalities in Montenegro, become independent(2013), with less than 5000 inhabitants. There are around of 25 small villages which belongs to the Municipality of Petnjica. In the center of Petnjica exist a mosque woth 3 floors, which date from 16.th centurty. This area is famous by the specific authoton sorts of apples, as well as by the very cold natural spring waters. People which live here are mostly ocupated by agriculture, livestock and fruit growing.
Small village Vrsevo is far around 6 km from the center of Petnjica, where live few hundreds inhabitants.
The village of Ravna Rijeka is located on the main road Bijelo Polje-Mojkovac, only 6 km from the center of Bijelo Polje. The village is ideal for a holiday with a beautiful view of the mountain Bjelasica. It is an excellent position for exploring the surrounding tourist attractions such as Lake Biograd, Durmitor, Prokletije or Djalovica gorge.
The village Suvodo is located just 16 km from Municipality of Berane, on mountain Bjelasica, on the way to Sisko lake. This area is perfect for active holiday, like hiking and biking, as well as stay in wildlife and explore nature, collect wild fruits, mushrooms or exploring flora. The household of Sekularac is located on the very border of the Biogradska gora national park and in the close surrounding exist many hiking and biking marked trails, which can bring you to the one of three glacial lakes Sisko, Ursulovacko and Pesica lakes or to the highest peak on Bjelasica - Crna Glava 2,139 m.
The village of Pape (Tomasevo) is located in the Vraneska valley, 24 km away from the center of Bijelo Polje. The village is ideal for rest and recreation, both for families and for married couples without children, but also for smaller groups of friends. There are shaving hiking and cycling trails in the area, so visitors can enjoy an active holiday. Only a few kilometers away are the Skakala waterfall and Glava Ljestanica, as well as the Novakovica cave.
The village of Bistrica
The idyllic landscapes of this village in the valley of the river Bistrica hide a rich and interesting history. Using the potentials of the river, the village got electricity long before the town itself, and the first light bulb in the entire district shone right here. The first radios arrived after her, so many people from Bijelo Polje came to Bistrica for parties to listen to the news. It was in period before World War II. During the war, the Italians took the turbine, so the plant stopped working. Although it was returned after liberation, it was never put back into operation, because at that time the city received electricity, and thus the village. Numerous mills were built in the village next to the river, and next to them, at the end of the 19th century, the first taverns (kahve), hence the old name of the village - Kahve. Bistrica is also known for Hasanbegovic's long-lived loggia (cardak), demolished in the 1970s. The three-story loggia was the only one that managed to survive all the riots and wars because two families of different faiths lived in harmony in it. "No one touched him, he was guarded by two faiths." The village of Bistrica is 16 km away from Bijelo Polje, it is located at about 585 m above sea level. The village is intersected by the river of the same name, which gives its attractiveness to the village. The population is engaged in agriculture and livestock. The village is ideal for vacation: hiking, biking, vacation by the river or photo safari.
The town Bijelo Polje is situated in the center of the Nord-east part of Montenegro, on 560m of altitude, between mountains Bjelasica and Lisa, in valley of river Lim. The name Bijelo Polje means ,,white field'' which got from the fields of daises that turn the landscape into a white linen each spring. Daisy is a symbol of Bijelo Polje.
Bijelo Polje became interesting tourism destination for people which not like a lot of tourists and noisy places, which want to explore beautiful nature, does not matter is it mountains, rivers, landscapes or just peaceful villages, from which they can enjoy in spectacular views to the surrounded mountains.
